How I Cooked Up My First Novel

Once upon a time in the San Francisco Financial District, I found myself working for a tyranical attorney. He was bad natured and no one in the office liked him. So when he went to Los Angeles for a deposition that took several days, I ran out of work. When you type 100 words per minute, it can happen.

Suddenly, my creative side took over and I started writing a story. Yes, it was a tale about a hateful, tyranical attorney who met his demise after committing several crimes. When the staff discovered my secret, they were fighting over the next page that came out of my super duper electric memory Xerox typewriter!

Now, I cannot even remember that attorney’s name. Once you kill a bully on paper, they seem to disappear right before your very eyes!

That’s how The Eye of Osiris and the Osiris Trilogy Mystery Series were born. When I really plunged into writing the story, it became more complex. Main character, Moriah Maizon is a third generation Mexican American who has lost touch with her roots. When she meets the handsome Luis Mendoza, that changes.

As an El Pasoan, I was surprised when I moved to Northern California and found that most Mexican Americans did not speak Spanish. I also found that there was so much racism against us. I had intimate knowledge of this, because most American people do not think that I am Mexican American. Yes, they spoke freely about their racism against Mexicans right in front of me.

You cannot make people love you, nor can you make them like you. Our culture is filled with joy: dance, good food, music, and Spanish, a beautiful romance language. It will not be stopped by hate. My story, I decided, would be of successful Mexican Americans. No crying and no regrets. My Latino characters are success stories.

Then I decided to throw in a little bit of Egyptology for good measure. Afterwhich, I topped it off with one of the many cultures in Latin America who built pyramids, the Mayans. 🥰
